My Tri Training: Looking for a Challenging Bike Ride

It's was early morning on the first day of our camping trip to Yosemite and according to my Sprint Triathlon training plan, I needed to get in 30 minutes on the bike...or a spin class. Spin classes are in short supply in the land of dirt roads and smores, so today, the outdoors are my gym. Just need to look for ways to make it a challenge.

I was also looking forward to trying out the new handlebars I ordered. Same ones I mentioned in a previous post about retrofitting the bike I have, which you can find here. They look much better than the curvy cruising handlebars I had on there before. Would've been nice to have the clip-on aero bars as well, but one thing at a time.

I hit the dirt roads in the camp site and found a nice size hill to climb. Handlebars and the bike felt great. Worked my way to the main road and ended up finding an even bigger hill. The kind that goes on and on unfortunately. I worked on it serpentine style when I get winded then tackled it head-on after catching my breath. Made it to the top, just in time to see the sun rise.

I chased the sun for a bit, which was an awesome view by the way, then opted to take the long way back to camp. Didn't want to hit the downhill portion of the hill I had just climbed so I worked my way to the other entrance road which offered up a few challenging hills of its own. Last hill was the one leading up to camp, which was a great way to finish up my workout.

Felt good to get my workout in, even though we were away from home.

Little did I know, I'd be logging 13k steps with the fam later that day at Yosemite. Highly recommend the hike to Lower Yosemite Falls. It was amazing!
